Subject: Bowling for Dollars
Buffalo to host 1,000 youthful bowlers in 2007.

The Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau has announced that the 2007 United States Bowling Congress Junior Gold Championships will be held in Buffalo July 7-13, 2007. The event will boost local coffers by more than $1.5 million.

Nearly 1,500 people will visit Buffalo during the championships that will require in excess of 6,000 hotel room nights.

"Buffalo is an ideal summertime location for this national scratch youth tournament," said Maureen Vicena, USBC Youth Events Manager. "The strong bowling community in Greater Buffalo, plus the allure and scenic wonder of nearby Niagara Falls, will help make the event a memorable trip for our Junior Gold members and their families. We're looking forward to working with local volunteers."

The 10th annual event will take place at AMF Thruway Lanes, AMF Airport Lanes and Transit Lanes. Buffalo and these bowling centers met the criteria for hosting the event. Criteria included having a minimum of three bowling centers with 48 lanes or more which are members of the Bowling Proprietor' Association of America and participate in its national Pepsi contract; located within a 30-mile radius of each other; and have a minimum of 800 hotel rooms available for bowlers and their families.

"Buffalo successfully bid against Ft. Lauderdale, Dallas and Rochester for this impressive piece of business," said Chuck Giglia, CVB amateur sports sales manager. "Buffalo Niagara's growing reputation for hosting successful amateur athletic events and the strength of the local organizing committee, resulted in the national site selection committee's decision to bring this event to Buffalo Niagara."

"Our success in bringing this prestigious event to Western New York further enhances our event portfolio which we're continually expanding," said Richard Geiger, President, Buffalo Niagara CVB. "In July and August of this year alone, we're bringing more than 1,500 swimmers to Buffalo - with the help of STAR Swimming and ECC - for a combined economic impact of nearly $1 million."

The Buffalo Niagara Convention & Visitors Bureau, as the marketing leader of the Buffalo Niagara hospitality industry, promotes our region worldwide as a convention, amateur athletics, tourism, leisure and business destination for the economic benefit of the community.
